Sarria is the most popular starting point on the Camino de Santiago: most pilgrims who want to walk the last 100 km set off from here. But before or after the Camino, many people need to travel between Sarria and Santiago by taxi.

Distance and journey time

• Distance: 115 km by road (AP-54 motorway + dual carriageway)
• Estimated time: 1 hour 15 minutes
• Route: Sarria, Portomarin, Palas de Rei, AP-53 junction, Santiago

The motorway route is fast and comfortable. There is also an alternative route along local roads that roughly follows the Camino path, but it takes considerably longer.

When is this transfer needed?

Before the Camino

• From Santiago to the starting point: Many pilgrims arrive at Santiago Airport or the train station and need to get to Sarria to start walking
• Dropping off luggage: Some pilgrims leave their suitcases in Santiago and travel light to Sarria with just a backpack

After the Camino

• Collecting your car: If you left your car parked in Sarria
• Returning to Sarria for logistics: Picking up luggage left at accommodation

During the Camino

• Emergency or injury: If you need to get back to Santiago from any point
• Day trips: Pilgrims who want to visit Santiago and return to the Camino

• Journey time: 2-3 hours (intermediate stops)
• Sarria station is a 10-minute walk from the centre

Practical tips

• If there are 3-4 of you, a taxi works out cheaper per person than the bus

• Book in advance during high season (April to October)

• For early flights, a taxi is the only reliable option
