A Coruña Airport to the Camino de Santiago: Transfer Guide

How to get from A Coruña Airport (LCG) to the Camino de Santiago. Transfer options to Sarria, Palas de Rei, and other starting points.

A Coruña Airport (LCG): An Alternative Gateway

Most Camino pilgrims fly into Santiago de Compostela Airport, but A Coruña Airport (Alvedro, code LCG) is a useful alternative, especially if you find cheaper flights. Vueling and Iberia operate regular services from Madrid and Barcelona.

Distances from A Coruña Airport

  • To [Sarria](/en/blog/things-to-see-in-sarria): 175 km (1 hour 50 minutes by car)
  • To Palas de Rei: 115 km (1 hour 20 minutes by car)
  • To [Melide](/en/blog/melide-octopus-capital-camino): 85 km (1 hour by car)
  • To Santiago de Compostela: 60 km (45 minutes by car)

Option 1: Direct Taxi Transfer

The easiest option. A direct taxi from A Coruña airport to your Camino starting point eliminates the hassle of connections.

  • Palas de Rei
  • Melide

Option 2: Bus via A Coruña City

  • Take a taxi or the airport bus to A Coruña bus station (20 minutes)
  • ALSA bus from A Coruña to Lugo (1.5-2 hours, €8-12)
  • Monbus from Lugo to Sarria (40 minutes, €4-6)

Total time: 3-4 hours including transfers

Drawback: Infrequent connections and no direct service to Sarria

Option 3: Train via A Coruña City

  • Get to A Coruña San Cristóbal train station
  • Renfe train to Lugo or Sarria (limited services, check renfe.com)

The train connection is scenic but slow and infrequent on this route.

When to Choose A Coruña Airport

  • If flights to LCG are significantly cheaper than to SCQ
  • If you are coming from Barcelona (more Vueling flights to LCG)
  • If your Camino ends in A Coruña (English Way pilgrims)

Our Recommendation

For groups of 2-4 pilgrims, a shared taxi from A Coruña airport is often cheaper per person than the bus combination and saves hours of travel time. Contact Taxi Castro at +34 659 99 31 39 or visit taxicastrog.com.
