What to see in Lugo
The Roman Walls
The star attraction of Lugo and the reason the city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Roman walls of Lugo are the only ones in the world that preserve their entire perimeter intact: 2,266 metres that you can walk along the top.
They were built between the 3rd and 4th centuries AD to protect the city of Lucus Augusti. They have 10 gates, 85 towers and a height of between 8 and 12 metres.
Cathedral of Santa Maria
Lugo Cathedral is a blend of styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque and Neoclassical. The most remarkable feature is that the Blessed Sacrament is permanently exposed -- a privilege shared by very few cathedrals in the world.
Plaza Mayor and the old town
The historic centre of Lugo lies within the walls and preserves its medieval street plan. The Plaza Mayor (Plaza de Espana) is the heart of the city, with the Town Hall and terraces for a drink.
Tapas in Lugo
Lugo is one of the best cities in Galicia for tapas. Rua Nova and Rua da Cruz are the main tapas streets. In many bars you get a free tapa with every drink.
